Ingredients

  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter (oleo), softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups quick cooking oats
  • 1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons oleo
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Grease a 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 inch pan with cooking spray.
  3. Mix brown sugar and softened butter together, then add eggs and vanilla; beat until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, and oats.
  5. Mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
  6. Reserve one-third of the oatmeal mixture.
  7. Press the remaining mixture into the prepared pan, spreading to the sides and slightly up the edges.
  8. In a 2-quart saucepan, melt chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter over low heat, stirring constantly.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in chopped nuts, vanilla, and salt.
  10. Spread the chocolate mixture evenly over the oatmeal layer in the pan.
  11. Drop spoonfuls of the reserved oatmeal mixture on top of the chocolate layer.
  12. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
  13. Allow to cool slightly, then cut into bars and serve.
