Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. plus 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 stick margarine or shortening
  • 2 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 8 to 10 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Mix yeast, warm water, and 2 tablespoons of sugar and let sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the remaining sugar, margarine or shortening, salt, and 3 cups of flour; beat with a mixer for 2 minutes.
  3. Gradually add enough flour to form a workable dough.
  4. Knead the dough for 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let the dough rise until doubled in size.
