Ingredients

  • 6 Tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 c sugar
  • 2 c flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2/3 c milk
  • 4 egg whites

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add the sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add the flour mixture to the butter and sugar alternately with the vanilla mixed into the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  5. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the batter until well combined.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased and floured cake pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool before frosting or serving.
