Ingredients

  • 5 cups self-rising flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 3/4 teaspoon soda
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup Wesson oil

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and sugar in a large, tightly covered Tupperware bowl.
  2. In another bowl or measuring cup, combine 1/2 cup warm water and yeast; let it dissolve.
  3. In another bowl, measure 2 cups buttermilk and soda; let it dissolve.
  4. Pour the yeast-water mixture into Wesson oil and stir until well mixed.
  5. Add the oil and yeast mixture to the flour mixture and combine.
  6. Knead and roll the dough on a floured board if using immediately.
  7. Cut the dough into biscuits and bake, or cover tightly and refrigerate for later use.
  8. Allow the dough to rise before baking if refrigerated.
