Ingredients

  • 1 can anchovies or sardines, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 can tomatoes, lightly drained and mashed
  • salt
  • pepper
  • oregano

Instructions

  1. Pat part of the homemade bread dough out about 1 inch thick onto a well oiled large cookie sheet with sides.
  2. Push some holes down into the dough so the topping will sink in as it bakes.
  3. Let the dough rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 to 2 hours.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Spread the chopped anchovies or sardines evenly over the dough.
  6. Add the mashed tomatoes (if using).
  7. Season with salt, pepper, and oregano to taste.
  8. Drizzle generously with olive oil.
  9. Sprinkle with grated Romano cheese.
  10. Bake at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown.
