Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 6 medium tart apples, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Prepare pastry crust.
  3. Mix sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  4. Stir in the sliced apples.
  5. Pour the apple mixture into a pastry-lined pie plate.
  6. Dot the filling with small pieces of margarine.
  7. Cover with a top crust that has slits cut in it, unfold, and trim the overhanging edge to 1 inch from the rim.
  8. Fold and roll the top crust edge under the lower edge to seal.
  9. Cover the pie with a 3-inch strip of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning.
  10. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, removing the foil during the last 15 minutes, until the crust is golden and juices bubble through the slits.
