Ingredients

  • 1 envelope yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 5 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 cup oil
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Mix yeast and 1/4 cup warm water in a small bowl and let it sit until frothy.
  2. Combine buttermilk, 2 teaspoons sugar, and 1 teaspoon soda in a separate bowl.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the buttermilk mixture and stir well.
  4. Add all the wet ingredients to the self-rising flour and mix until combined.
  5. Place the dough in a large covered container and refrigerate overnight.
  6. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  7. Cut into biscuits using a biscuit cutter.
  8. Place the biscuits on a baking pan and bake at 400°F for 15 minutes or until browned.
