Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2/3 c. milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • frosting to taste

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening with sugar until mixture is very light.
  2. Mix flour alternately with milk into the creamed mixture.
  3. Fold in egg whites which have been beaten until stiff, but not dry.
  4. Add vanilla to the batter.
  5. Divide batter into two greased layer pans.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Frost to taste.
