- Melt butter in a large saucepan.
- Stir in sliced onions.
- Cook, covered on medium low heat for 8 to 10 minutes or until tender and golden, stirring constantly.
- Divide onions evenly among 6 (6 ounce) individual casserole or custard cups.
- Beat eggs until light.
- Stir in half and half, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the egg mixture atop the onions or place in an 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish and pour mixture over.
- Bake in a 350°F oven for 15 minutes or until the mixture is set (allow 15 to 20 minutes for onions in baking dish).
- Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese during the last 5 minutes of baking.
