Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed black cardamom seeds
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. Combine scalded milk, sugar, and butter in a large bowl; cool to lukewarm.
  2. Add salt, eggs, crushed black cardamom seeds, dissolved yeast in water, and 5 cups of flour; stir well.
  3. Add more flour in 1/2 cup increments until dough forms a ball.
  4. Turn out onto a floured board and knead well, adding additional flour as necessary, until dough is dull, elastic, and not sticky (about 10 minutes).
  5. Coat a large heat-resistant bowl with vegetable oil.
  6. Place kneaded dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil.
  7. Cover with a clean damp dishtowel or plastic wrap.
