Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 to 2 lb ground round
  • 16 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 cups crushed cracker crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pour 12 ounces of tomato sauce over the ground meat and reserve the remaining sauce.
  3. Add cracker crumbs, chopped onion, egg, salt, and black pepper to the meat mixture. Combine until uniform.
  4. Pack the mixture into a large loaf pan.
  5. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the top of the loaf.
  6. Bake for 1 to 1 1/4 hours or until the loaf is firm and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
  8. Pour off the grease and reserve for gravy.
  9. In a skillet, fry 1 chopped onion in hot fat.
  10. Add 1/2 teaspoon Season-All and 4 heaping tablespoonfuls of flour to the skillet.
  11. Pour in enough water to make a medium-thick gravy, stirring until smooth.
