Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • milk to make 2/3 cup
  • 4 handfuls corn flakes
  • 4 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Make dough with flour, shortening, salt, egg yolk, and milk to make 2/3 cup.
  2. Divide the dough in half and roll out the first portion to fit a 12 x 18-inch cookie sheet.
  3. Cover the rolled dough with corn flakes evenly.
  4. Layer thinly sliced apples over the corn flakes.
  5. Sprinkle sugar over the apples.
  6. Dot the apples with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  7. Place the second rolled-out dough on top of the layered ingredients.
  8. Brush the top crust with beaten egg white.
  9. Bake at 375°F for 45 to 50 minutes until golden and cooked through.
