Ingredients

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 c. milk

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a small bowl, beat the egg and milk; stir into the dry ingredients just until moistened.
  4. Turn onto a well-floured surface; knead 20 times.
  5. Roll to 3/4-inch thickness.
  6. Cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
  7. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 450°F for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm, great with apple butter.
