Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. bacon, diced
  • 2 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 2 c. onion, chopped
  • 1 c. green pepper, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 lb. 9 oz. tomatoes
  • 18 oz. tomato paste
  • 1 c. red wine
  • 4 tsp. oregano
  • 4 tsp. basil
  • 1/2 c. parsley
  • 2 tsp. thyme
  • 1 bay leaf, crumbled
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. water

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon in a 6-quart pan until brown.
  2. Set aside, draining all but 1 to 2 tablespoons of grease from the pan.
  3. Brown ground beef, discarding excess fat.
  4. Stir in chopped onions, green pepper, and minced garlic.
  5. Cook for 10 minutes.
