Ingredients

  • 1 stick oleo plus 2 Tbsp.
  • 1 cup brown sugar plus 2 Tbsp.
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • nuts (if desired)
  • 8 to 10 slices white bread
  • 6 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups milk or evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. The evening before serving, place the melted oleo, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts in the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  2. Arrange 8 to 10 slices of trimmed white bread in the pan, stacking two deep if necessary.
  3. Beat the eggs well with the milk and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread and ingredients in the pan.
  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  6. Next morning, bake at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes.
  7. Invert portions onto plates when serving. The dish makes its own sauce.
