- Cream together egg yolks, butter, and sugar for 15 minutes.
- Dissolve lemon jello in hot water.
- Add dissolved jello to the sugar mixture.
- Stir in drained crushed pineapple.
- Add chopped nuts if desired.
- Beat egg whites stiff and fold into the mixture.
- Crush vanilla wafers into crumbs.
- Cover the bottom of a dish with half of the wafer crumbs.
- Pour the mixture over the crumbs and spread remaining crumbs over the top.
- Let stand overnight before serving with or without whipped cream.
