Frozen Rolls

These homemade frozen rolls are soft, flaky, and buttery, perfect for anytime comfort and easy to prepare ahead of time for fresh-baked goodness.

Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup lard
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water, add sugar; let set until yeast rises.
  2. Mix flour, soda, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Add lard, mix until crumbly.
  4. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture; mix well.
  5. Knead 20 or 30 strokes.
  6. Place in greased bowl; let rise 2 hours.
  7. Push down and knead until smooth.
  8. Roll out 1/2 inch thick; cut out biscuits.
  9. Place on cookie sheet and freeze.
  10. When frozen, place in freezer bags.
  11. Take out when needed, place in greased pan, put in cold oven.
  12. Bake at 400°F for 25 minutes.
  13. Brush with melted butter.
