Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 tall can evaporated milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, flour, and cocoa; gradually stir in evaporated milk.
  2. Cook over medium heat until mixture boils and thickens.
  3. Add a small amount of the hot mixture to the beaten egg yolks, then return all to the pan.
  4. Cook and stir until very thick.
  5. Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla, and cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Pour the filling into a pre-cooked pie shell.
  7. Cover with meringue and brown in a 350°F oven.
