Ingredients

  • 2 oz. chocolate
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate and pour over the shortening; mix well.
  2. Beat the eggs until thick and lemon colored.
  3. Gradually add the sugar, beating well after each addition.
  4. Combine the egg mixture with the chocolate mixture and add a little of the flour.
  5. Sift the rest of the flour, salt, and baking soda together; add alternately with the milk.
  6. Stir in the chopped nuts.
  7. Spread the batter in two greased and floured 8 x 8-inch pans.
  8. Bake in a slow oven at 325°F (160°C) for 20 minutes.
  9. Frost with vanilla frosting and cut into bars.
