Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons confectioners sugar
  • 4 cups oil

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then stir in the milk.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Pour batter into a funnel or squeeze bottle.
  6. Hold a pie plate with the bottom cut away underneath the funnel or bottle, and carefully pour the batter into the hot oil in a circular motion to form a ring.
  7. Cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. Dust with confectioners sugar before serving.
