German Potato Dumplings are hearty comfort food with cheesy layers and caramelized onions, perfect for family dinners or special occasions needing rich, flavorful, and satisfying dishes.

Ingredients

  • 8 medium size potatoes (3 lb.)
  • 2 medium size onions
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 lb. Swiss or Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes until fork pokes through.
  2. Peel and mash the potatoes while hot.
  3. Add salt and flour to the mashed potatoes and form into 1/2-inch thick patties.
  4. Cook the patties in boiling water for 5 minutes.
  5. Drain the patties and place them in an 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.
  6. Layer the patties with sliced onions sautéed in 2 Tbsp. oil and Swiss or Cheddar cheese.
  7. Bake at 325°F for 1 hour.
