Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
  • 4 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Heat molasses to the boiling point.
  2. Remove from flame.
  3. Add shortening and stir until shortening is melted.
  4. Let mixture cool.
  5. Add sifted dry ingredients to the cooled mixture.
  6. Mix well.
  7. Chill the dough.
  8. Roll very thin.
  9. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet in a moderately hot oven at 375°F for 4 to 5 minutes.
