Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups applesauce
  • 1 tablespoon soda
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and vegetable oil in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add applesauce and soda to the mixture.
  3. Beat at medium speed for 1 minute.
  4. Add raisins and chopped nuts.
  5. Sift together flour, cocoa, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
  7. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  8. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan.
  9. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 70 minutes.
  10. Let cool in the pan, then remove to a cake plate.
