Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar, water, molasses, shortening, and egg together.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix dry ingredients: flour, ginger, salt, soda, nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon.
  3. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until well blended.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet.
  5. Bake for approximately 10 minutes at 400°F.
  6. Top with your favorite frosting or icing if desired.
