- Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Blend in molasses, water, flour, salt, baking soda, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice.
- Cover the dough and chill for 2 to 3 hours.
- Roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured cloth-covered board.
- Cut into gingerbread boy shapes with a cutter.
- Place the cutouts on ungreased baking sheets.
- Press raisins into the dough for eyes, nose, and buttons.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Remove immediately from the cookie sheet.
- Cool and decorate as desired.
