  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups molasses
  • raisins or red hot candies

Instructions

  1. Combine water, shortening, and butter or margarine in a mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ground ginger, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until well combined.
  4. Stir in the molasses until the dough is uniform.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to desired thickness.
  6. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Decorate with raisins or red hot candies as desired.
