Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 teaspoons soda
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar; add molasses and beaten eggs.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately to the creamed mixture with buttermilk.
  3. Beat well after each addition.
  4. Pour batter into a greased pan and bake for 45 minutes at 350°F.
