Ingredients

  • 1 lb. pork sausage
  • 1 qt. cold water
  • 1 1/2 c. pinhead oatmeal
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine pork sausage, cold water, pinhead oatmeal, diced onion, salt, and pepper in a pot without browning the meat.
  2. Cook on low heat for 2 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally until the mixture thickens considerably.
  3. Pour the cooked mixture into a cold casserole dish and refrigerate until firm.
  4. Slice the chilled goetta and fry until golden brown.
  5. Serve hot, ideally with eggs and toast.
