Ingredients

  • 500 g. lean rump or fillet steak
  • 1 spring onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. finely chopped leek
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. light soy sauce
  • 2 tsp. sesame oil
  • few drops hot chili sauce
  • 1/2 c. peanut oil

Instructions

  1. Cut steak into very thin slices and beat them quite flat.
  2. Arrange the beef slices in a single layer on a dish and sprinkle with chopped spring onion, leek, and garlic.
  3. Mix sugar, light soy sauce, sesame oil, and hot chili sauce together to make the marinade.
  4. Spoon the marinade over the beef slices to coat them evenly.

Tips & Substitutions

To ensure tender beef slices, freeze the steak for about 30 minutes before slicing; this makes it easier to cut thinly. If you're out of sesame oil, you can substitute with a mixture of olive oil and a dash of toasted sesame seeds for flavor. For a spicy kick, consider adding more hot chili sauce or incorporating some Canned Hot Peppers 'N Ketchup into the marinade.

Serving Suggestions

Serve Gogi Bokum with steamed rice or over a bed of stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal. It pairs beautifully with an Oriental Salad - Marinated for a refreshing contrast. For a beverage, try it alongside a Hot Fruity Sipper to balance the flavors.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, gently warm the beef slices in a non-stick skillet over low heat, adding a splash of water or soy sauce to prevent drying out. Avoid microwaving, as it can make the beef tough.
