Grandma'S Date Nut Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. melted butter or oil
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. dates (raisins may be used or both)
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 1 c. boiling water

Instructions

  1. Pour boiling water over dates and let cool.
  2. Mix other ingredients and add dates.
  3. Bake in moderate oven, 350°, until done.
  4. Bake in loaf pan.
