Ingredients

  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 4 1/2 to 5 c. sifted flour

Instructions

  1. Mix together the sugar, eggs, sour milk or buttermilk, shortening, soda, and baking powder.
  2. Gradually add the sifted flour until the dough is soft but workable.
  3. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet.
  4. Sprinkle the tops with desired toppings or sugar.
  5. Bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
