Granny's Breaded Tomatoes feature tender tomatoes simmered in a savory onion butter sauce, topped with golden toasted bread cubes—perfect for comforting, hearty meals and vegetable lovers.

Ingredients

  • fresh or canned tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • salt to taste
  • sugar to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat tomatoes and juice until ready to boil.
  2. Saute chopped onion in butter until translucent.
  3. Add sautéed onion to tomatoes and juice, season with salt and sugar to taste.
  4. Thicken the mixture with flour and water until it resembles gravy.
  5. Cut white bread into small squares and stir to coat with melted butter.
  6. Toast bread squares in the oven until golden brown, stirring often.
  7. Pour the tomato mixture over the toasted bread cubes.
  8. Mix slightly and bake in a 350°F oven for 15 minutes.
