Ingredients

  • 1 cup grits
  • 3 tablespoons hot milk
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup grated Cheddar cheese
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 egg yolks

Instructions

  1. Combine the grits, hot milk, chopped onion, and salt in a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Beat the egg yolks until thick and lemon-colored, then stir them and the grated Cheddar cheese into the mixture.
  3. Pour the mixture into a greased casserole dish.
  4. Set the casserole in a baking pan and pour boiling water into the pan to a depth of 1 inch.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour.
  6. Serve immediately.
