- Select a butt, shank, or whole smoked ham based on the number of guests coming.
- Soak the ham in water, changing several times over 4 to 5 hours to remove excess salt.
- Boil the ham in apple juice for 4 to 5 hours until tender.
- Allow the ham to cool in the apple juice.
- Trim any excess fat from the ham.
- Cover the ham with brown sugar, decorate with pineapple slices, maraschino cherries, and whole cloves.
- Bake in a 300°F (about 150°C) oven until the glaze is formed.
