Ingredients

  • 2 cups uncooked farfalle (bow tie) pasta
  • 1 medium red onion, cut into thin wedges
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seed, crushed
  • 16 ounces frozen cauliflower, carrots, and asparagus
  • 2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
  • 2 cups julienne strips fully cooked ham
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook and drain the pasta according to package instructions in a 3-quart saucepan; set aside. Wipe the saucepan dry with a paper towel.
  2. Heat the oil in the same saucepan over medium-high heat.
  3. Cook the onion in the oil for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until crisp-tender; reduce heat to medium.
  4. Stir in the cauliflower, carrots, and asparagus mixture.
  5. Cover and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are crisp-tender.
  6. Stir in the ham, fennel seed, pepper, and cooked pasta.
  7. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is hot.
