Ingredients

  • 3 lb. lean coarsely ground meat
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 3 (1 lb.) cans tomatoes
  • 2 tsp. crushed cumin seed or ground cumin
  • 3 (15 oz.) cans pinto beans or canned kidney beans
  • 2 small green peppers, chopped
  • 1/4 c. cooking oil
  • 3 or 4 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp. Tabasco sauce
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Cook beef, green peppers, onions, and garlic in oil in a cast-iron kettle until beef is lightly browned.
  2. Add all ingredients except beans.
  3. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes.
  4. Stir in undrained beans; cover and simmer for an additional 25 minutes.
