- Combine 1 1/2 cups of the flour, the yeast, and fines herbes in a bowl.
- Heat the water, butter or margarine, sugar, and salt together until warm (115° to 120°), stirring until the butter almost melts.
- Add the warm mixture to the yeast mixture.
- Beat at low speed of an electric mixer for 1/2 minute, scraping the bowl constantly.
- Beat for 3 minutes at high speed.
- Stir in the remaining flour.
- Cover and let rise until doubled in size.
- Stir down the dough.
- Spread evenly in a greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise until doubled in size again.
- Bake in a 375°F oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
- Remove from the pan and cool on a wire rack.
