Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon dried fines herbes
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 1/2 cups of the flour, the yeast, and fines herbes in a bowl.
  2. Heat the water, butter or margarine, sugar, and salt together until warm (115° to 120°), stirring until the butter almost melts.
  3. Add the warm mixture to the yeast mixture.
  4. Beat at low speed of an electric mixer for 1/2 minute, scraping the bowl constantly.
  5. Beat for 3 minutes at high speed.
  6. Stir in the remaining flour.
  7. Cover and let rise until doubled in size.
  8. Stir down the dough.
  9. Spread evenly in a greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
  10. Cover and let rise until doubled in size again.
  11. Bake in a 375°F oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
  12. Remove from the pan and cool on a wire rack.
