Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 lb. hot bulk pork sausage
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 (6 oz.) can sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. dried whole oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. ground thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef, sausage, chopped onion, and minced garlic in a Dutch oven; cook until meat is browned, stirring to crumble the meat.
  2. Drain off drippings.
  3. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, sliced mushrooms, chopped parsley, brown sugar, dried oregano, ground thyme, and bay leaf; bring to a boil.
  4. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. Uncover and simmer an additional hour, stirring occasionally.
  6. Remove bay leaf, spoon the sauce over cooked spaghetti before serving.
