Ingredients

- 1 lb. hot bulk pork sausage ⓘ
- 1 c. chopped onion ⓘ
- 2 cloves garlic, minced ⓘ
- 2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce ⓘ
- 2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste ⓘ
- 2 c. water ⓘ
- 1 (6 oz.) can sliced mushrooms, drained ⓘ
- 1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley ⓘ
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar ⓘ
- 1 1/2 tsp. dried whole oregano ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp. ground thyme ⓘ
- 1 bay leaf ⓘ
- salt to taste ⓘ
Instructions
- Combine ground beef, sausage, chopped onion, and minced garlic in a Dutch oven; cook until meat is browned, stirring to crumble the meat.
- Drain off drippings.
- Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, sliced mushrooms, chopped parsley, brown sugar, dried oregano, ground thyme, and bay leaf; bring to a boil.
- Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Uncover and simmer an additional hour, stirring occasionally.
- Remove bay leaf, spoon the sauce over cooked spaghetti before serving.
