Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soft butter or margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Add sugar and beat until the mixture is light and airy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the sifted flour, baking powder, and salt, alternating with the heavy cream, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Chill the dough for several hours.
  6. Roll the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  7. Cut into shapes using fancy cookie cutters.
  8. Bake in a moderate oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 10 minutes until lightly golden.
  9. Decorate as desired once cooled.
