Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons flour
  • 3/4 to 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. In a 13 x 9-inch pan, combine brown sugar and water and bring to a boil.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, milk, baking powder, salt, and vanilla, then fold in chopped dates and nuts.
  3. Pour the batter into the hot syrup in the pan, ensuring the pudding is added gently without disturbing the syrup.
  4. Spread evenly and bake at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes.
