Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup oleo
  • 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup whole bran cereal
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 cups candied cherries, halved
  • 2 cups chopped dates
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Beat oleo and brown sugar until creamy.
  3. Add eggs and beat well.
  4. Mix bran cereal, milk, and vanilla.
  5. Stir in dry ingredients with cherries, nuts, and dates; mix well.
  6. Spread batter into two greased 9 x 9-inch baking pans.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes.
  8. When cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  9. Cut into squares and serve.
