A classic holiday turkey with a flavorful lemon and herb rub, basted with butter or oil for a juicy, golden roast perfect for festive gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 to 10 lb.) turkey
  • 1/2 lemon
  • salt
  • 1 tsp. thyme
  • 1/2 cup butter or Crisco oil
  • 1/4 tsp. Tabasco sauce

Instructions

  1. Wipe the turkey with a damp towel.
  2. Rub inside the turkey with lemon, salt, and Tabasco sauce.
  3. Loosely stuff the body and neck cavities with dressing, allowing 1 cup per pound of meat.
  4. Truss the bird by tying the legs, running string under the wings and back to the legs, then tying.
  5. Rub butter or oil over the entire outside of the turkey.
  6. Roast in a preheated 350°F oven for 45 minutes, then turn the turkey on its other side and roast for another 45 minutes.
  7. Turn the turkey on its back and roast for 2 hours, basting with butter or oil every 20 minutes.
