Homemade Heath Bars feature crunchy saltine crackers topped with caramel-like brown sugar mixture, melted chocolate, and optional pecans, offering a sweet, buttery treat perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

  • 1 box saltine crackers
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 package chocolate chips (1 lb.)
  • 1 package chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a cookie sheet with foil and coat with cooking spray.
  2. Arrange saltine crackers in rows to fill the sheet.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter and add brown sugar.
  4. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Pour the hot syrup over the crackers and spread gently to cover all.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and turn off the oven.
  8. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot crackers and return to the warm oven for 5 minutes until melted.
  9. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the surface.
  10. Top with chopped pecans, if desired.
  11. Allow to cool completely, then cut or break into pieces.
