Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/3 c. honey
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
  • 2 1/2 c. unbleached white flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve honey in 1/4 cup warm water.
  2. Scald milk and add butter, honey, and salt; let the butter melt.
  3. Cool milk mixture to lukewarm.
  4. Add eggs and yeast, then add the flours.
  5. Mix well to combine.
  6. Knead until satin smooth.
  7. Place in a buttered bowl; cover and let rise for two hours, or until doubled in bulk.
  8. Punch down the dough and form into round balls about the size of a golf ball.
  9. Place the dough balls separately on a buttered cookie sheet or close together in a buttered round pan.
  10. Cover and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
  11. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until browned.
