A delightful chilled salad with sweet applesauce, cinnamon, cream cheese, and nuts, perfect for holiday gatherings or as a refreshing side with ham or poultry.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 (8 oz.) cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 can sweetened applesauce
  • 2/3 cup small cinnamon candies
  • 2 packages lemon jello
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Combine boiling water with cinnamon candies in a saucepan; stir over low heat until candies are dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat, stir in lemon jello, and blend in applesauce.
  3. Pour half of the mixture into an 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish.
  4. Chill until the gelatin is firm.
  5. Leave the remaining gelatin mixture at room temperature.
  6. Blend cream cheese with mayonnaise; add chopped nuts.
  7. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the chilled gelatin layer.
  8. Pour the remaining gelatin mixture over the cream cheese layer.
  9. Chill several hours or until completely firm.
  10. Cut into squares and serve.
