Ingredients

  • 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Place chocolate morsels in the top of a double boiler; bring water to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low; cook until chocolate is melted. Remove from heat.
  3. Cream shortening; gradually add 1/2 cup sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
  4. Add melted chocolate, egg, and corn syrup; beating well.
  5. Combine flour, soda, salt, and cinnamon; add to creamed mixture, beating just until blended.
  6. Shape dough into balls, using about 3 tablespoons of dough for each, and roll in sugar.
  7. Place on ungreased cookie sheets about 2 1/2 inches apart; bake at 350°F for 18 minutes.
  8. Cool on cookie sheets for 2 minutes.
  9. Remove to wire racks and cool completely.
