Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup currants
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  2. Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and unbeaten egg.
  3. Beat well.
  4. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk to the creamed mixture.
  5. Pour into a greased oblong pan.
  6. Mix currants, cinnamon, and sugar together and sprinkle over the top.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 20 to 25 minutes.
  8. Break into pieces and serve warm with butter.
