Hot Fruited Cabbage combines sweet apples and brown sugar with savory cabbage, making a comforting side perfect for family dinners and festive occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp oleo
  • 1/2 medium-sized cabbage, shredded
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Instructions

  1. Saute apples and onion in 2 tablespoons of oleo for 10 minutes.
  2. Add shredded cabbage and water, then cover and steam for 20 minutes.
  3. When tender, add brown sugar and vinegar.
  4. Just before serving, add the remaining tablespoon of oleo, salt, and pepper.
