Tips & Substitutions

For a smoother sauce, blend the cooked tomatoes before adding the onions and peppers. Use any variety of hot peppers you prefer, adjusting the quantity based on your heat tolerance. If you want a little sweetness, consider substituting honey for some of the sugar. Make sure to use fresh ingredients for the best flavor, and if you're short on time, canned tomatoes can be a quick alternative.

Serving Suggestions

This hot sauce pairs beautifully with Taco Beans and can elevate many dishes. Use it as a condiment for grilled meats, veggies, or as a zesty addition to salsas. Drizzle it over tacos or mix it into a spicy dip for Jicama Sun Delight. For a unique flavor boost, try adding it to your favorite Mexican recipes or even as a marinade for chicken or fish.

Storage & Reheating

Store the sealed jars of hot sauce in a cool, dark place like a pantry. Once opened, keep the sauce in the refrigerator, where it can last for several weeks. To reheat, simply scoop out the desired amount and warm it in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. You can also microwave it in short intervals, stirring in between.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use store-bought tomatoes instead of fresh?

Yes, you can use canned tomatoes if fresh ones are unavailable. Opt for whole peeled tomatoes or crushed tomatoes for convenience. Just be mindful of the liquid content and adjust the cooking time to ensure the sauce thickens properly.

How can I adjust the heat level of the sauce?

To make the sauce milder, use fewer hot peppers or substitute with milder varieties like Anaheim or Poblano peppers. Alternatively, you can add more sugar to balance the heat. If you want extra heat, consider adding a dash of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes when cooking.

How long can I store this hot sauce?

If properly sealed in jars, this hot sauce can last for up to a year in a cool, dark place. Once opened, store it in the refrigerator where it will stay fresh for several weeks. Always check for signs of spoilage before using.
