Tips & Substitutions

For a twist on flavor, consider adding shredded cheese inside the roll-up with the frankfurter. You can also use whole wheat or gluten-free crescent rolls for a healthier option. If you prefer a spicier kick, opt for a spicy mustard or add jalapeños. These hot ziggities can also be made with veggie sausages for a vegan version.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these hot ziggities as a fun appetizer or snack at parties. They pair perfectly with a side of chips or a fresh salad. For a complete meal, consider serving with a side of Naomi'S Dill Pickles for a refreshing contrast, or enjoy them with a dipping sauce like ranch or a spicy aioli.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the hot ziggities on a baking sheet and warm them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes, or until heated through. This will help maintain their crispiness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use other types of sausages instead of frankfurters?

Absolutely! You can substitute with other types of sausages such as turkey, chicken, or even plant-based options for a vegan version. Just ensure they are precooked, as this recipe relies on baking them wrapped in the crescent dough.

How can I make these hot ziggities more flavorful?

You can enhance the flavor by adding spices to the crescent dough before rolling, such as garlic powder or Italian seasoning. Additionally, consider using flavored mustards or adding toppings like chopped onions or relish for extra taste.

Can I prepare these ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the hot ziggities ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator before baking. Just assemble them, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Bake them just before serving for the best texture.
